In collaboration with ASPIRE (Anti-Human Trafficking Program) the division of Global Mental Health was created and designed to integrate these areas of clinical care, research, education, training, and advocacy to serve adults and children impacted by extreme forms of violence.

Resident Training

CITS currently trains 3rd and 4th-year psychiatry residents which includes Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellows. They are trained to provide culturally competent trauma informed care while practicing cultural humility in their treatment. Resident will perform psychiatric evaluations of refugee patients from all around the world, using the CFI and culturagram.

Residents will learn how to provide psychiatric care, recognize and appreciate the differences in psychopharmacologic principles. They will also provide supportive psychotherapy to refugee patients, all the while learning about resilience and cultural humility. Participation in community outreach and running focus groups/ wellness education classes will also be required. Residents will also provide support for ongoing refugee community building projects with medical students and graduate students.
