GSBS Statement on COVID19 Impacts on Admissions Review

Content

The Ïã¸Û6ºÏ¿ª½±½á¹û Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is aware of the severe challenges and impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has caused for students learning in higher education settings. BCM confirms its mission to foster diversity among its students, faculty, and staff.  We encourage students with all backgrounds and a passion for biomedical sciences and health equity to apply. Thereby, we will address the COVID19 pandemic in the following manner as it relates to admissions reviews.

The program and central admissions committees of the GSBS will take into account the significant disruptions and challenges associated with the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic when reviewing all candidate’s application materials as part of these programs’ ongoing practice of conducting specific, thorough, and holistic reviews of each applicant. We will continue our mission of seeking applicants with the motivation and commitment to graduate school along with strong interest as a future medical school or graduate health professions school student.

As our admissions committees review applications for future admissions cycles, we will respect decisions made by individual students and/or by their academic institutions with regard to the enrollment in or adoption of Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, Pass/No Record, Credit/No Credit, Pass/Fail and other similar grading options during the pandemic disruptions. Applicants are invited to describe their individual experiences during the pandemic within their personal statement to provide context of their academic experience to assist admissions committees with their reviews.
